The Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at the University of Nebraska was established in fall of 2002 by the National Science Foundation to carry out research on new magnetic structures and materials at the nanometer scale, or a width of about four atoms.  

 

The research programs of QSPINS include two Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs):

  1. Nanomagnetism: Fundamental Interactions and Applications
  2. Spin Polarization and Transmission at Nanocontacts and Interfaces

 

Also we have at present three Seed Projects:

(1)     Nanocluster Ensembles: Preparation, Characterization and Fundamental Thermodynamic Properties

(2)     Fabrication and Characterization of Carbon Nanotube Spintronic Transistors

(3)     Electronic Structure and Properties of Magnetic Clusters and Nanotubes.
